Bills of Quantities
A Bill of Quantities provides you with an insight into the cost structure of the project you’re bidding or have secured. It’s a fundamental document on any project, which forms the basis for all of the following;

Measurement
In order to produce an accurate Bill of Quantities, the work must be measured. Following a standard method of measurement such as SMM7 or NRM2, the works can be quantified in a way that enables other contractors and stakeholders to understand what is required. Quality and accurate measurement requires a good technical understanding of the component parts of a project and also the method of undertaking the work.
If the measurement of a project is documented, for example, with marked-up drawings and calculations, then in the future if there is any uncertainty as to where work is located, or how a quantity was arrived at, the drawing or model can be consulted.
